High-risk pregnancy management

Summerville Medical Center's Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic is open five days a week to offer specialized care for expectant mothers—and their unborn babies—if your pregnancy is classified as high risk. Conditions that contribute to a high-risk pregnancy include hypertension, previous complex pregnancies, being pregnant with multiples, genetic history and age.

Our perinatologists (maternal-fetal experts) evaluate high-risk mothers-to-be on a consistent basis while also tracking fetal development. Services include:

  • Advanced ultrasound services
  • Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Genetic counseling and testing
  • Perinatal evaluation and treatment plan for each high-risk patient.
  • Prenatal testing

Breast care

Consistently evaluating your breast health is paramount to the early detection of breast cancer. A full spectrum of breast imaging and diagnostics, including mammograms and biopsies, are performed at the Trident Breast Care Center and Summerville Breast Center, plus normal ultrasounds and screening for osteoporosis.

Additionally, we offer mammograms at Moncks Corner Medical Center, so you don't have to travel far from home for a breast cancer screening.

Should you receive a breast cancer diagnosis, Trident Health's cancer care program offers advanced treatment options and support throughout your cancer journey.

Gynecological surgery

Conditions such as uterine fibroids and endometriosis require surgical intervention. Our gynecological surgeons are trained in minimally invasive robotic surgery for a variety of these types of procedures, including:

  • Endometriosis resection
  • Myomectomy (fibroid removal)
  • Single-site hysterectomy

Robot-assisted surgery allows the surgeon to be extremely precise and requires smaller incisions than traditional surgery. The potential benefits of robot-assisted surgery include less pain, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery.

Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program

In 2022, Summerville Medical Center launched an Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program, marking an important milestone for our growing women's and children's program and helping train the next generation of caregivers across the Lowcountry.

Our treatment services include conditions such as:

  • Incontinence (urinary and/or fecal)
  • Pelvic or lower back pain
  • Vaginal, bladder and rectal prolapse

Often, pelvic floor therapy can be helpful. When surgery is needed, some pelvic floor disorders can be treated with minimally invasive robotic surgery. To schedule a pelvic floor therapy appointment, contact (843) 970-5020.
